Here now, some answers to questions:
Q: Why haven’t you been posting at all?
A: A combination of things, but mostly just a lack of time.
Q: But isn’t that why you reduced your schedule to once a week?
A: Yep, the hope was that by changing the schedule, I’d have a chance to continue with the comic, my day job, and everything else in my life without going insane. That hasn’t happened, and I’ve had to make hard choices about where to direct my energy, meaning the comic has been on the short end of the stick. (This has made the last strip a bit embarrassing given its content, but I suppose that leaving it up is an appropriate self-punishment.)
Q: So, is The Daily Blink done?
A: For now, yes. It doesn’t make sense to continue hoping that *this* week will be the week that everything comes together and I suddenly have time again. However, I also hate to ever say that the strip is DONE done. Back in the first year of the comic, I took a hiatus when I wasn’t playing WoW or feeling like I had much in the way of content to offer. Four months later, I found my drive to produce strips again, Mike joined on, and it was immediately afterwards that the site experienced the most traffic it’s ever had. So, never say never, but this won’t be a thing that happens unless I can fully commit to a release schedule.
Q: What else are you working on that The Daily Blink gets the shaft?
A: A lot of things, but nothing that I can announce (or are worth announcing). Some of it might be relevant to your interests, some if it will almost definitely not. I’m not sure how things will shake out, but I know that I’m excited about what I’m pursuing. I also know that it’s generally a good idea to make sure you have your next big effort ready to go live before closing up shop on the previous one, but I honestly just don’t have enough hours in the day to do everything at once without causing each of those things to come out looking like crap.
Q: Is the site going away?
A: No, it’ll stay up, as will the Facebook, Twitter, and Tumblr pages. However, if you would like to stay up to date with what’s going on with me, your best bet is following me on Twitter at @chrishanel.
A huge thank you to everyone who has supported The Daily Blink and helped make it the joy that it’s been over the last three years- including CP, Michael Owen, Jasmine Hruschak, Holden Hill, Blizzard Entertainment and their infinite ability to take a joke, donators, cheerleaders, retweeters, fans nice enough to walk up at Blizzcon and say “hey, cool stuff”, fellow artists and content creators willing to lend an ear and help make the strip better, and everyone cool enough to be supportive through the last few weeks, and understand how difficult it can be to end one of the most successful creative projects I’ve ever worked on. Whatever comes next has a very high bar to meet, and that’s not such a bad thing.
